Christmas!

It's that time of the time of the year when it's okay to indulge in calorie-filled, artery-clogging, goodness like chocolate chip cookies, candy,  turkey, and MAYOnaise! Okay....maybe not the MAYOnaise, but....you know what I'm saying! It's Christmas time, it's okay to indulge and get fat! It's also good to remember those who may not be having the best times right now. Around this time of the year, I always think of what I could do to help someone in need. I have always wanted to do something special for a complete stranger, but I just don't know what. I love to give, and of course I give to friends during the holiday season, but I want more than that. I want to give to someone that will make a difference. I know I am going to do something, I just have to keep thinking about what it is. Why not make this holiday season the season of giving? Go look through your closet and find the things you don't need anymore, and even if you give by doing something as simple as donating your old clothes to the Good News Rescue Mission, or to your nearest thrift store, every little bit counts.

As for fashion and the holiday season, what I love most are the disgustingly tacky Christmas sweaters with snowmen, santa, or even reindeer on them. I love the added texture and glitter too. Though they are not very fashionable, during Christmas time it's okay to have a little fun, and make them look cool. Heck, why wear them only during Christmas? Why not wear them all year long?! So... go digging through Grandma's closet today! ;)

What I love most about fashion during Christmas time is the obnoxious glitter. I absolutely love love love shine, sequins, and glitter when it comes to clothing during Christmas time. I'm not talking about the casual sequin and jewel-covered clothing either, I am talking tacky stuff that average people wouldn't wear on a daily basis today. In fact, I love glitter so much that I bought fabric glue and glitter, and I decided to spice up a few shirts of mine. I am having a lot of fun! In the photo above, Gabe and I are bed-bouncing in our fabulous sparkly shirts! This was taken last Christmas break.

I will post some pictures of the shirts I have decorated very soon.

Today I mailed a package full of goodies to a needy family. I searched all throughout Craig's List for a family that seemed to really need some cheer this holiday season. I mailed them candy, mittens, a scarf, a mug, tea, cocoa, some small toys, some pencils, and more. I have always wanted to do something like this, and I am glad I did.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a wonderful birthday today. It was absolutely beautiful in every way. I looked around the table at all of my friends and I felt so lucky and happy to be alive. I acknowledged the different personalities, styles, and beauty of each individual I sat around and I felt so honored to be in their presence, and so proud that people of such different backgrounds and lives came together as friends. The beauty of the Holiday season today is that not only is it families (of the same culture, race, and religion) celebrating the holiday season together, but it's also friends and family of diverse culture, races, and religion. I am so happy to be a part of this generation, where it's okay to befriend those who are much different than you. I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am. I am loving every minute of this holiday season.

This photo kind of portrays that diversity and love that we are now free to endure. This is a mural outside of The Warfield theater in San Francisco. When I saw it, I took a few moments to stare and analyze the magnificence of it. I mean, look at it! Look at the diversity of people gathered together? I was in awe. I am in awe. I can not believe that this is what we have become. Such a beautiful, colorful sight.

Put your dancin' shoes on, get your diverse group of friends together, and express love to them with freedom!

More to come..

Glambert

Is it sad that I am completely inspired by Adam Lambert's style? Everything down to the bump-it greaser hairstyle, the black nail polish, and the sparkly blazer jackets make me extremely envious.

Today while trying to attempt this look, I realized it actually isn't all that hard, it's just that you need the right shoes to get it down. Some shiny oxfords or boots should do, but make sure they have that "rebel" look with them...like "bbbbbaaad to the bonnneee!"

Also, did anyone else find his AMA performance to be completely inspiring? The costumes were FABULOUS. Did you know Adam designed them? They reminded me of the Betty Page bondage days--strappy, seductive, and burlesque.

Oh yes, I hope everyone had a Happppy Thanksgivinggg!

GO INDIANS ;)

As a matter of fact, I do read Teen Vogue.

It's kind of sad actually-- my fascination with Teen Vogue. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable with talking about liking of Teen Vogue is, well, the title of TEEN Vogue. C'mon, it's not really even for teens! If anything, there are more adults in it than teens, so I don't care. I LOVE Teen Vogue and have been a consistent reader since my Frosh year in high school. It's the one magazine, out of most, that actually encourages me to dress cool. aha. I love the spreads, the photo shoots, the clothes they advertise, everything.

Speaking of Teen Vogue's spreads, in the August 2009 issue they had a spread of these incredible shoes which I had no idea about prior to reading the magazine. They are called Winklepickers. I know, right? The name of them keeps you asking for more! They are expensive though... and they come from a brand by the name of Underground England.

The closest I can get to these precious puppies is a bottle of spray paint and some cheap oxfords from the thrift store down the street.

Another great thing about Teen Vogue is how they can literally take any article of clothing and make it look cool. "Oh, hmmm, Camo pants and an over-sized knitted sweater? Add a belt and heels... FABULOUS!" Why is it so damn hard to make the clothing from my disgustingly huge pile look cool? Maybe I just don't think it looks cool? I don't know...

Introduction

I am incredibly jealous of these 1940s women. I want to live in their clothes, drive their cars, and eat their food. This was the time of not only women independence, but also modesty and morality. Why can't things still be like this for all women? I guess you just have to be your own person, which I am doing, and not conform to the disgusting way that women present themselves today.

I was raised to shop at thrift stores because my family never had much money. To be honest, the first time I ever set foot in a department store to buy clothes was in the 5th grade. I wasn't used to the structure of these stores, or multiples of the same apparel on racks. I was so used to thrift stores--- the places that rarely ever have multiples of one item. Now that I have grown up, I understand these stores a lot better and own quite a few brand-new items, but my closet still mainly consists of an extravaganza of different colors, patterns, fabrics, and shapes of clothing from thrift stores. I also collect vintage brooches and wear them on a regular basis. I really, truly, can not get enough of them.

Shopping at thrift stores taught me to be creative at a young age. I would take clothing, whether it was too big or small, and alter it to my liking. I still do this today. As a freshman in high school I went a little crazy with sewing, and since I did not own a sewing machine, I hand-sewed everything. I made clothes by hand, and sewed patches on EVERYTHING. I loved vests, still do, and never matched. Oh, how wonderful it was to be young and careless. I guess I still am though :) I appreciate fashion, and not just modern fashion you see in magazines or the latest "indie" trends with massive scarves, wayfarer glasses, and flats, but ALL fashion. Each person dresses differently and has their own taste in clothing, and just because it's not in the latest Vogue magazine does not mean it's not fashion. If you think it's fashion, it is, and I appreciate it.

I'm rambling, sorry.

I got my first sewing machine the summer before 10th grade. It was a 1961 Model A Singer and I adored every minute of it. I was recently given a PFAFF Sewing Machine (pictured) as a gift, so I have put my Singer away to save and someday have on display in my own home.

In this blog, I want to portray fashion for everything it is, whether that be makeup, hair, jewelery, nails, shoes, shoes, shoes, scarves, hats, and a whole lot more! I would love to find out the history of different articles of fashion and share them, and share pieces I may own, or want to own. I want to know about you, the readers (hopefully there will be readers!), and what inspires you to dress, or present yourself, the way you do. Whether this blog be successful or not, I know it will be a lot of fun for me! :)

Speaking of presenting yourself, how do you present yourself? Is it through your makeup, fashion, hair, or simply even the nail color on your fingernails? There are many ways we can tell a person who we are, even without ever meeting them. I choose to present myself through clothing.

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO COME!
